Byte Synthesis

About

A small, self-funded incubator that starts every project with a real problem

Who we are

Byte Synthesis is a small incubator, funded by its founders rather than outside investors. That keeps us independent and lets us pick projects on their merit: is the problem real, and is it worth solving? We work with people who have spotted a problem to prototype an answer, put it in front of the people who have the problem, and decide together whether it is worth taking further.

We start with the problem

A project doesn’t start with a product idea. It starts with a problem, stated plainly:

Who has it

The people it affects, specifically enough to go and find them

How they cope today

The workarounds, and why they fall short

Why now

What has changed that makes it worth solving at this point

If we can’t answer those three, we don’t build yet. Once we can, the product is judged by one test: does it solve that problem for those people?

How a project moves

  1. Idea

A problem with those three answers

  2. Prototype

Something the people with the problem can try

  3. Pilot

Running with a few of them

  4. Live

    Shown to solve the problem

The stage on each project’s page says where it is today.

Dossiers

Each project keeps a dossier: the problem statement, how the product solves it, its roadmap and its release notes. Dossiers are for signed-in visitors.
