What we collect
When you browse the site, we collect nothing unless you accept analytics (see Analytics).
When you sign in with Google or Facebook to read a project’s dossier, the provider tells us your name, email address, profile photo and an account ID. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
When you read a dossier, we keep a record of who opened which project’s dossier, which sections they viewed, what they exported and when, along with the name and email from your sign-in. Only Byte Synthesis administrators can see it. We use it to know who has seen confidential project material.
When you email us, we keep the message and your address to reply.
Cookies
The site sets no cookies of its own. Analytics cookies are set only if you agree to them:
| Cookie | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_C0Z11BEZEZ |
Google Analytics: tells repeat visits apart, only if you click Accept | up to 2 years |
The site also keeps a few things in your browser’s own storage: your sign-in (kept by Firebase), your name and photo so the header can show them straight away, and your cookie choice. They stay on your device until you sign out or clear them.
Analytics
Our public pages (not the admin pages) use Google Analytics to count which pages are visited, where visitors came from, and their approximate country, browser and device. We use it to improve the site. Advertising features are switched off, and we don’t combine it with your sign-in.
A banner asks you first. Google Analytics only loads if you click Accept: then it sets the cookies above, and your browser sends Google the page details listed here, along with your IP address, which Google uses to estimate your country and doesn’t store. If you click Decline or don’t choose, nothing is loaded from Google and nothing is sent to it. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Declining after accepting removes the cookies. We keep analytics data for 14 months.
Who else handles it
- Google (Firebase) hosts the site, handles sign-in and stores the dossier access record.
- Facebook, if you choose to sign in with it.
- Google Analytics, only if you accept it, as described under Analytics.
These services may process data in the United States. We don’t share personal data with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your sign-in details and the dossier access record while the project is in the portfolio, and delete them on request. Emails are kept as long as the conversation is useful.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you by emailing contact@bytesynthesis.com. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time with Cookie settings, and remove our access to your Google or Facebook account from that account’s settings.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
